Obesity in children

Obesity in children

Obesity in childhood may be caused by two reasons. First, the daily diet, for example, many parents who have to be divided among multiple tasks, work and home, it's more comfortable offering fast food to their children; Second, the lack of physical activity, and most their activities are concentrated around the television, computer and video games.

Bad eating habits in childhood have negative effects on health. First, are more likely to develop high blood pressure and cholesterol, which is linked to heart disease in adulthood. Second, the emergence of type 2 diabetes increases significantly in children and adolescents are overweight.

The overweight and sedentary children have mental health effects. Two effects of a sedentary lifestyle are the difficulties for sports, for example, the ability to walk more than one block is affected by the lack of physical activity and overweight, and second, loss of sleep which is caused by the too much video games or television, ending with the most obese generation.

In concluding there are an obvious impacts in health caused by obesity which will affect adversely their mental and physical function besides if it is untreated could trigger dangerous diseases, so it is necessary to mitigate the conduct or behavior that allow our children to become obese thus improving their quality of life for present and future.

private versus public(debate)

Private universities versus public universities (private side)

The private universities are more efficient than public by three main reasons which are: the use of study time, the availability of international works and the accreditation of teachers.
The private universities’ career could take less than three years, while in a public four years to obtain a degree. The student, who prefers a private university means enter in the professional world in half the time besides thanks to field projects, better prepared to face real situations. Alban Sandí Bonilla, executive director of the Union of Rectors of Private Universities (together), estimated that many college students prefer private over public.

He stated that private schools run better the time of her students because the schedule classes per quarter and no courses of six months, this combined with the existence of field projects which prepares and introduces students to the professional world.
By the way Olman Segura, president of UNA and president of the National Council of Rectors (CONARE), say that the quality of some private universities are "questionable" and students should check better where to study, however; education is always subjective and this situation can happen with some public universities, in addition, currently many private universities have gained ground in academic quality.
The second reason are Discounts, agreements with universities in other countries, job and scholarship that are used by private universities to attract students and this can be more effective that offer new students opportunities for growth only inside national market. Without mention the job opportunities that universities guarantee the student to get job during and after finishing the race.

Many public universities seek to overcome the student only in the national market leaving away international opportunities and without deny the good preparation for some students coming from these institutions; not everyone finished their career well prepared to act in others countries which in all the cases means lost experience, very valuable and functional for national economy.
According to the International University of the Americas 96.8 percent of its graduates get a work because job opportunities range. Also highlight the international conventions as a "plus" for those who pursue their careers.

The private universities credited their professor to be sure that they possess the necessary skills to teach in their respective areas.
Alban Sandí Bonilla, executive director of the Union of Rectors of Private Universities said that they will build a center of quality management. The intention is that teachers have courses, seminars and workshops on the proper way to teach; in addition there are current requirements like:
• The total academic staff of each university , not more than 20% may have only bachelor's degree.
• At least 80% must have at least a degree
• In addition, at least 20% of teachers must have a university experience with at least five years in teaching, research or social action.
• Another requirement is that the experience of at least 10% of teachers in private universities should be more than 10 years.
Sometimes public universities seeking qualified personnel to teach but they leave out the experience, a requirement that private universities have always in mind.

In conclusion Private universities usually prepare better students for the workplace. First of all, they used better the time of their students thanks of schedule classes via quarter and no courses of six months, and second, offering agreements with universities in other countries, jobs and scholarship giving more opportunities to their graduates to get jobs within or outside the country. Finally, the professional preparation of teachers in private institution creates a confident ambient of learning for all students.

Blind Side

The Blind Side

Anyone can make a dream come true. First of all, seek an education is a symbol of excellence, despite poor grades a student can have .The schools are a place to assist the future of young people, and second a family contributes to the development of the person for example in the movie Big Mike is seen as a positive change, as he feels a loving family. Third, the personality is what determines if the two points above can work or not. In conclusion, any dream can come true if you have these three factors.

Mike improved his grades in the new school thanks the teacher who always trust in him in contradistinction to others schools where no one was paying attention or interest. For example; the teacher demonstrates to other teachers that Mike understands the lessons, but does not respond to the written tests; however, in the oral tests he does. Another important point is the support of the new family prompting Mike to stay in school and improve their skills by studying with her new sister. Mike's life changed with his new family. First of all he get a stability that has never had; now he is no longer a “runman” as determined by your old mother. Mike now has security and support the new family.

Mike's self-esteem improves with his new family. Family support makes him feel that it is not silly and having a purpose in life. Another factor is the smile of Mike; for example at the beginning of the movie the little’s girls run away when mike get close to her but later they look noticeable happy with the company of Mike. Another important factor that proves the point is the confidence Mike shows in the interview at the end of the film where he speaks without fear and indicates that he goes to college in Mississippi because it is the college of your family and for no other reason.

Mike had a solitary personality which was not shining in almost any factor except the instinct of protection (perhaps because of its terrible past); however, could gradually improve various aspects of his personality. The first one was the discipline with which he could raise his grades and of course he could use his strength to protect his family and fight for it like when he were injured in a car we could seen as Mike had his arm beaten because he protected without regard for his safety his younger brother besides we could see how Mike improved training after he talk with her mother who told him to protect his teammates as if they were his family.

In the end Mike's life changed dramatically when she meets a family who supported him and gave him the love he never had growing confidence himself being capable to raise his grade in school and of course his personality might be manifested in a smoothly moving forward overcame its tragic past.

inmigration

Migration advantages

Migration is a contentious topic, but for us it has three main advantages. The first advantage is that ammigrants do jobs that local people are not willing to take, for example we know of several foreigners in our towns working in agriculture and construction. The second advantage is the cultural integration which increases diversity as the different foods like “pupusas” from El Salvador and the “nacatamal” from Nicaragua besides the language is enriched because each country has its own forms of expression for example people in Costa Rica use the word “mae” to refer to another person and in Panama they use “pana”. The most important advantage for us is the economic aspect, it significantly improves the income of the country according to a study by CATO Institute which says that migratory legalization will cause $ 180 000 millons in benefits for American families. To sum up we believe that although migration is a contentious topic has many advantages which we agree with.

Poverty

Poverty is a problem that is present throughout the world, and Costa Rica is no exception, so it is necessary to take precautions. In Costa Rica, there are 18.5% of families in poverty.
I had the opportunity to meet a poor family since almost 3 years ago. They do not have the revenue needed to provide basic needs. They are 5 in total, father, mother, and her 3 children all of whom are in school age .I speak a lot with the father, and he once told me "life is very difficult especially when you have not studied for which I will do my best for my children can study and get out of this lifestyle, and I Told him "You're a wonderful father" and for more than 2 ½ years I have seen how it works in several places at once as a cameraman, welding, repairing furniture, and as an assistant under construction when I see him doing all that I remember the words he told me. In our countries many people complain of poverty and do nothing about it.
I think this family is an example of those who instead of complaining about the situation do something to get ahead.
In us is the strength for a better future.

ULACIT

Organizer
Globalization week

Dear organizer:

The Activity carried out last September 22 and directed by Federico Gutierrez and Pazos Ethel was very productive for me because I learned new information which had never paid attention as was the case for the influence of globalization in each of our lives, the difference from communicating or giving a speech, how life has changed in such a short time due to the advanced technology and of course see a very different point of view that I saw people who lived through the cyber revolution so I have realized that listened their speeches make me meditate about the need to inform and prepare for what is to come, not to lose a part of who we are as it is our language.
